Words of wisdom from a tough old dog

(430)288-1679

My life has involved many varied trials and tribulations, extensive travel, the early death of my Soul Mate, the passings of many good people and exposure to some of the very bad. Through all of it, my faith in the Lord has kept me out of jail. A man of great Common Sense, I yet recognize that luck is required to reach a very old age. My brushes with death can not be counted on a single hand and my body has yet to fail me. Physical conditioning is like being well prepared for the coming Global Financial Collapse. Use it or lose it.

Most of us are unhappy about personal issues in one form or another. The society in which we live honors beauty to an unhealthy degree and media advertisers and television reminds us regularly that we are NOT one of the ‘BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE’. We buy nice clothes and we use makeup or wigs – this includes men – to improve our appearance but, few of us were born with the chiseled looks and pointed noses of our reknowned movie stars. Some twenty years ago, the movie that launched Jack Black’s career was ‘Shallow Hal’. Everyone should see this movie repeatedly because it makes a profound statement about ‘inner beauty’, pride and vanity that are common struggles among us average people. Magically, Shallow Hal is transformed into a man who sees only the inner beauty or inner darkness in the physical appearance of the women he pursues. This makes for a very funny movie as Hal himself has a very unique stub of a tail protruding from the base of his spine. The most beautiful woman of them all appears to Hal as she works with children in a hospital ward. This nurse expresses such genuine kindness to the badly burned or deformed children, that she appears beautiful to Hal, while in reality, she is physically flawed. The movie is a comedy but, the lesson is profound. All of us need to see the inner beauty of others and value that character trait above all else. Particularly Americans are generous people with good hearts. We are so Blessed to live in this great country of abundance. Gratitude is as important as Honesty or Integrity. Embrace Gratitude in all that you do and especially toward your conduct with the many people who enhance your life and you will find inner peace. Through Gratitude, you can become so much more than you now are. Meanwhile, continue to look your best, cook your best, work your best and express joy during this special season of your life. We are all trying to succeed in our pursuit of happiness. Try not to get in the way of this effort for others but rather, make them feel special and give them the respect that we all deserve. If you truly enjoy giving gifts more than receiving them then, you may just be on the road to a life well lived because this is the essence of gratitude through the spirit of giving.
