With Thanksgiving just hours away now…I stopped all meals. For years I would suffer through the aftermath of sometimes two huge Thanksgiving meals…one at Mom’s and the other at Mo’s (the Mother-In-Law). Often, those two meals were too close together and, even when I was young, a body can just take so much food. Now, as a senior, I do what I should have done many years ago; I skip one or more meals the preceding two days and then, I only eat one plate full on Thanksgiving day (though it is still a BIG plate). Today one of my friends – a good man of forty-six years old – passed away in his sleep last night. Peter was a big man. Though strong, he could rarely be ‘out eaten’. I suspect that yesterday he just filled up beyond his heart’s capacity to work through it. It is very sad when someone that we respect dies so young. My cousin Willie was 58. One of the best people I have ever known, his passing crushed not only his family but, friends and colleagues in the scores. I have always stressed health and exercise. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time and a most wonderful meal…BUT…do not eat breakfast tomorrow!! And definitely, do not eat again after the Thanksgiving meal. Also, I always had a slice of Pumpkin Pie and a slice of Pecan Pie for dessert, despite having no room for either. Now, I forfeit dessert altogether. Except Ice Cream…it’s like Jello! So, I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving! But, be sensible…eat slowly…savor it.
