Words of wisdom from a tough old dog

(430)288-1679

My life has involved many varied trials and tribulations, extensive travel, the early death of my Soul Mate, the passings of many good people and exposure to some of the very bad. Through all of it, my faith in the Lord has kept me out of jail. A man of great Common Sense, I yet recognize that luck is required to reach a very old age. My brushes with death can not be counted on a single hand and my body has yet to fail me. Physical conditioning is like being well prepared for the coming Global Financial Collapse. Use it or lose it.

How Will You Help Someone Today?

About six months ago, one of my fellow church-goers was involved in a serious automobile accident and was in the hospital for quite some time; then, a convalescent facility for a considerable stay. I visited Kenny several times and, once he was sent home, I encouraged him to return to church. I did not realize that he was unable to walk. When he asked if I could take him to church, I said, “Certainly!” He is ready to go when I get to his home so, I wheel him out to my car. The challenge is getting him into, and out of, the car. Kenny is over 200 lbs and it is very difficult for me to lift him out of the wheelchair. Once we arrive at our church, I go inside and request the help of one of our younger 300 pounders. Keith has very little trouble getting Kenny into the chair and I then roll Kenny into the church. Our church is very much a family. Once inside, Kenny is greeted again and again by people who are genuinely happy to see him. And I, am thanked again and again for bringing Kenny to church. It is profuse to the point of embarassment but, it is always good to be appreciated. So, I now have a weekly task that is challenging. There has been a very dramatic change in Kenny that will keep me doing this honorable task. He is optimistic to the point of talking about marriage and children. At 54 years old, that is a great outlook for an older man. This too will keep me going. It is my prayer that Kenny will be able to walk by the Spring. He has very limited use of his legs at this point but, I will purchase a stationary bicycle that is easy for me to get him into and out of. Once he is working his legs, it should be a matter of weeks before he is walking. During my lifetime, I have set many goals for myself because I was taught to be GOAL ORIENTED. My goals often involved my wife and/or one or both of my daughters. This is one of the rare occasions when I have set a goal for someone outside of my family. If I can do this…if I succeed…it will ensure that Kenny has years in the future with which he can help others. Kenny is a very good man with a kind heart; people like this are invaluable to society…especially at this time and at this place.
